Encouragement for Sedgefield Elementary teachers
School is back in session, and the amazing staff and 60+ teachers at Sedgefield Elementary are ready for another great year. Along with offering prayers each Sunday for our partner school, we’d like to show our support by sending cards or notes of encouragement to the teachers. Starting September 7 through October 19, you can drop off your cards or notes in the receptacle located in the narthex or lobby. The cards will be delivered to the school the following week. Ms. Galbraith, the principal, shared that words of encouragement from the community mean a great deal to the teachers!
Choir is calling!
Are you looking for a way to deepen your spiritual life? Find a community? Or maybe you're intrigued by the idea of taking on the challenge and reward of working on a piece of music to share with your church family? If any of these speak to you, the adult choir is calling your name. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 6:16 PM and share an anthem each Sunday at the 10:30 worship service. Contact the parish office for more info.
Love Gives pledge campaign begins Sept. 28
Our annual pledge campaign “Love Gives” kicks off on Sunday, Sept. 28. Please join us in the Main Street lobby between services for a special coffee hour. There will be fresh fruit, pastries, juice and coffee. As part of this year’s campaign we are sponsoring a fundraiser to help reach our goal of $600,000. The pledge campaign committee will be selling candles for $10. The candles all have a scripture citation of Matthew 22:36-40. Candles have a fall fragrance and we will also have a limited supply of fragrance free candles. We are looking forward to a successful fundraiser and pledge campaign. “Love Gives” reminds us that love is not only a feeling—it’s an action. -- Diana Skelton, Pledge Campaign Chair
Ferguson Avenue playground spruce-up on Oct. 4
Our Ferguson Avenue playground is enjoyed by families here at St. Andrew’s and throughout Hilton Village and we love that! Now the playground needs some sprucing up and we're going to do that on Saturday, Oct. 4, 10 AM to noon. We’ll do things like: repairing and painting the climbing gym; making minor repairs to the fence; weeding, pressure washing. As the saying goes, many hands make for light work and we’ve invited Hilton families who use the playground to join us in this effort. If you are able to help on Oct. 4, please contact the church office. We are always heartened when families enjoy the playground with their children. Help us keep it a fun and safe place for everyone!
Artists, exhibit your work at St. Andrew's First Annual Art Show!
St. Andrew's is having its First Annual Art Show on Thursday, October 9, from 6 to 9 PM in the Parish Hall. Members of St. Andrew's are invited to exhibit their artistic creations. Please contact the church office if you wish to show your work. Please plan to attend this celebration of the talented artists in our parish. The public is welcome. Refreshments will be served.
Halloween in Hilton is coming!
We are continuing the tradition again this year! Halloween in Hilton is a HUGE night of fun, with literally thousands of children, from all over the city, trick-or-treating up and down Main Street and throughout the village. St. Andrew’s will be giving out little rubber duckies again this year—they are a big hit with the kids! You can help make this possible by making a donation toward the purchase of the ducks. Checks can be made payable to St. Andrew’s with “Halloween” on the memo line. In addition to the little duckies, St. Andrew’s also provides a welcome rest stop for families—with water and bathrooms available. If you’d like to volunteer to help out on Halloween night, please contact the church office.

Back by popular demand! The Thursday night Bible study will resume in the church library beginning on September 4 at 7:00 pm with a study of the first eight chapters of the book of Acts. This study will give participants insights into the immediate post-Jesus foundations of the church and spread of the gospel, and provide a model for those who continue(d) to follow Jesus without his physical presence, something of an early church for a modern day perspective. Do come join us!

Instructed Eucharist
September 21, 8 AM and 10:30 AM
Ever wondered why we do what we do during worship on Sundays? A great way to find out is to participate in an Instructed Eucharist, a worship service at which we pause periodically throughout the liturgy to explain what the different parts of our worship mean. On September 21st, both the 8:00 and 10:30 AM services will be Instructed Eucharists. In lieu of a sermon, there will be brief explanations at several points in the service about the ways in which our words and actions, prayers and song are designed to help us draw closer to God.
