Meet our Clergy & Staff
The Rev. Anne R. Kirchmier
Rector
The Rev. Anne R. Kirchmier graduated from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in 2001 and has served parishes in Virginia ever since. In late 2016 she joyfully accepted a call to St. Andrew's and began her ministry here on February 1, 2017. Anne has a passion for outreach, pastoral care, and Christian formation for all ages, as well as for collaborative ministry. She is especially interested in social justice issues. For four years, Anne facilitated Pastoring the City, an interfaith, racially diverse group of local clergy working together to serve the people of Newport News. For six years, Anne served as chair of the Diocesan Program Budget and Review Committee. She currently serves on the Executive Board of the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Past mission trips have included Africa, the Dominican Republic, and New Orleans. In the Diocese of Virginia, Anne served on the Executive Board and as a Regional Dean. Prior to seminary, Anne taught elementary and middle school for 11 years in rural western Massachusetts. She is married to the Rev. Dr. John W. Herbst, an ordained Baptist minister with a PhD in Bible.
The Rev. Marc Vance
Associate Rector
The Rev. Marc Vance graduated seminary from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, in 1997. Before coming to St. Andrew's in March 2020, he served parishes in Kansas City, MO, Melbourne, FL, and Columbus, IN. Marc shares the rector's passion for pastoral care, Christian formation, and issues of social justice, as well as for our Eucharistic services being central to our self-understanding as a community of faith. He has also been involved at the diocesan level for the bulk of his career, having served as camp chaplain, on a camp board, and Commission on Ministry, among others, and is currently working on the Repairing the Breach committee, the development of a diocesan Confirmation process, and the Peninsula Ministry Partnership.
Ginny Chilton
Minister of Music and Supervisor of Children's & Youth Ministry
Ginny joined St. Andrew's as Minister of Music in August 2022. In this role, she plays the organ, leads the choir, and carefully plans the music for all worship services, bringing her extensive experience and passion for music ministry to the church. With over twenty years of experience in church music, Ginny has served congregations in Charlottesville, Boston, Norfolk, and Hampton before coming to St. Andrew’s. Ginny began her role as Supervisor of Children and Youth Ministries in July 2024. She oversees Children's Church (for ages 4-12) and youth ministry (grades 6-12), recruits and trains volunteer teachers, and fleshes out the church calendar with activities and accessibility for children and their caretakers in mind. Ginny holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Virginia, and both a Master of Sacred Music and a Master of Divinity from Boston University.

The Rev. Katherine T. Gray
Deacon
Kathy is originally from Charleston, SC. Kathy’s father served in the Navy and the family moved around as military families do. Her family moved to Hilton Village when Kathy was ten, and she has felt deeply rooted here since then, embraced by St Andrews parishioners, mainstreamed into all that it had to offer a child: Sunday school, choir, scouting, and youth group. Kathy’s three children grew up here at St. Andrew’s, experiencing the same sense of belonging in this loving and supportive environment. It is Kathy’s great joy that each of her children, despite life taking them to other cities, have remained active in the church, and taken on leadership in their parishes, as their own children grew and flourished in their faith formation. Kathy was ordained to the vocational diaconate in 1998. Prior to ordination, Kathy worked 17 years in parks and recreation, and 10 years in non-profit agencies. As a deacon, she answered a call to hospital chaplaincy, as well as youth and college ministry, serving in two dioceses, and five different parishes. Kathy is delighted to be back at St Andrew’s, where God’s love was manifested and first powerfully experienced.
