Can You Help Lorna Move?
On September 13, Lorna will be moving from her Hampton apartment to a house right here in Hilton Village—313 Hurley Street!  She would welcome any and all help with her move that day.  She would be especially appreciative of any truck owners willing to assist. If you are able to give Lorna a hand with her move, please contact her directly by September 6 so that she can plan for the 13th. Lornawilliams.saec@gmail.com or cell:  734-904-8799. Thank you!

The Congregational Development Team is interested in starting an Adopt-a-Student program with Christopher Newport University. The idea is to pair church members with CNU students to lend them support and friendship during their time at the university.  What would student adopters do? Some suggestions might include: inviting the student to dinner, church services or local activities, attending an athletic or theatrical performance, baking cookies during exams, providing transportation to the airport, or hosting the student in your home for a holiday if he or she is unable to go home. The Congregational Development Team is looking for interested families or persons (at least two or more adults per student). We need to hear from you by August 26 so we can match the students to families for the new semester. If you are interested in being on the list to adopt a student, contact John and Mary Wood, mwood1937@aol.com.

Parish Discernment Introduction Meetings
As we begin our parish discernment process in response to the closing of the school, it is crucial that parishioners understand how the discernment process will work. To that end, the Vestry has decided to offer three Parish Discernment Introduction meetings: Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.; Sept. 26 at 10 a.m.; and Sept. 30 at 9:15 a.m. The same material will be covered at each of the three meetings. Please make every effort to be present for one of these sessions so that we can all begin on the same page. The discernment process will involve at least two components: first, a careful inward look at who we are and the gifts we have to offer at this moment in our life together; and then, based on that information, a wider conversation with our local community to determine how St. Andrew’s can best partner with our neighbors to address needs in our community. Discernment takes time, and our process will continue to evolve as we listen to one another and to the Holy Spirit at work in our midst.
