Kairos Prison Ministry

Agape for the next Kairos Weekend, Nov. 15-18, 2018 at Nottoway Correctional Center, is needed! Please deliver cookies to the church by noon on Tuesday, November 13. Click here for a cookie recipe.

The mission of Kairos is to bring Christ’s love and forgiveness to all incarcerated individuals and their families.  St. Andrew’s is active in the Kairos Prison Ministry which takes place in various state prisons twice a year. The goal of the program is to create a self-sustaining Christian community within the prison. Team members receive 35 hours of training prior to entering a prison. You can support Kairos in several different ways.

Agape is an offering that represents Christ’s unconditional love for the weekend participants without expectation of anything in return.  Visible signs and expressions of Agape come to the weekend participants in these ways:

Prayers aren’t just for our team members, but for the weekend participants and the institution’s officers and administration.  Signup sheets for the first names and last initials of prayer partners will be placed in the church lobby.  During the weekend, each prayer will be represented by a link in a paper prayer chain to show the participants that they are not alone in their spiritual journey.

Posters and paper placemats
Inspirational messages and drawings remind the participants of God’s love.  For posters, please use half-size poster board to differentiate them from the full-size posters that the participants make during the weekend.  Do not sign posters or placemats with last names.  Any children who draw posters or placemats can include their age, but should only sign their first names on the poster.  St. Andrew's EYC made posters and placemats.

Each team member needs to bring 100 dozen cookies with them to be distributed among all of the incarcerated residents of Nottoway. That’s a lot of cookies and we need all the help we can get!  Cookies cannot be “store bought,” and cannot have any external coatings such as sugar, sprinkles or icing, or contain any type of fruits (such as raisins) or nuts. They can be baked in advance and frozen, but please don’t freeze them before they completely cool, or they tend to crumble. Package them one dozen to a bag and label them “Kairos.” Click here for the Kairos cookie recipe.
