Islam for Christians Lecture Series

Thursday evenings, Sept. 21 - Oct. 26, 7 to 8 p.m.

St. Andrew's, Newport News, invites you to join them for "Islam for Christians", a six week series focusing on Islam as it is practiced in the United States. Over six weeks, John W. Herbst, Ph.D, will deliver six lectures on Islam in light of Christianity. Through these lectures, Dr. Herbst will explain what Muslims believe, how they practice Islam, and how Christians and Muslims can co-exist and even work together for the glory of God.

John W. Herbst has a PhD in Bible from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond VA, and has taught Islam and Religion at J Sargeant Reynolds Community College and John Tyler Community College, and Bible and Biblical Languages for Regent University in Virginia Beach. He is an ordained Baptist minister.

You can learn more about Islam at Dr. Herbst's blog, www.christianguidetoislam.com.

Additional Opportunity - Mosque visit on Nov. 2 at 6 p.m.

Dr. Herbst will be extending the Islam for Christians class by one week so that participants (and anyone else who is interested) can take part in a visit to the Hampton Mosque, 22 Tide Mill Lane, Hampton, on Thursday, November 2. Please plan to arrive at the Mosque by 6:00 p.m. We will observe salat (ritual prayer). Islam Bedir, one of the Muslim men who participated in the October 12 session of Islam for Christians, will speak about Islam, and there will be time afterward for questions. We will finish by 7:30 p.m. There is no dress restriction for the Mosque visit; we only need to be sure to remove our shoes once we enter the building.
