Special Events & Outreach Projects

Advent Choral Vespers Service
December 1, 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church
First United Methodist Church invites us to join them for a service to help us begin the new Church Year on Sunday, December 1 at 4:00 PM.  The choirs from St. Andrew’s and Hilton Presbyterian will join the First United Methodist choir, along with clergy from St. Andrew’s and Hilton Christian, to hear the ancient prophecies from the Old Testament and the fulfillment of those prophecies as written in the New Testament.  Hymns and simple anthems will highlight these readings.  Please join us as we continue the ecumenical worship that our congregations have enjoyed during this past year of celebrating 100 years as “the light of Christ” in Hilton Village!

Advent Party
December 8, 5 p.m.
Join us for our annual Advent Party (for adults, please) at the home of Rachel and Al Roby (900 River Road). No need to RSVP. If you're a newcomer, please join us - you don't need to bring a thing. Everyone else, please bring your favorite holiday hors d'oeuvres and beverage. Hope to see you there!

Mini-retreat: Advent Space, Holy Waiting
Join us on Saturday, December 14, from 9 to noon to spend a morning with the expectant waiters of the first Christmas:  Elizabeth and Zechariah; and Joseph and Mary. What were their hopes and dreams, challenges and concerns? How can their experiences speak to us 2000 years later as we wait for Christ this Advent? We will meet in the Parish Hall but also spend time in the sanctuary. The morning will include scripture and silence, reflection and prayer. If you can’t stay for the whole morning, come for whatever portion works for you. Bring a journal if that would be helpful. All are welcome.

Outside Winds Quintet in Concert to benefit PORT
December 15 at 4 p.m.
Everyone is invited to a concert of Christmas music by The Outside Wind Quintet to benefit PORT Emergency Winter Shelter of Hampton Roads. The concert will feature traditional and contemporary arrangements of some of our favorite Christmas carols. Donations will be accepted and all proceeds will benefit PORT.  A reception will follow the concert in St. Andrew's parish hall. To encourage donations, a group of anonymous parishioners will provide matching funds up to $1,000. We hope you can join your friends at St. Andrew's for a wonderful concert, guaranteed to put you in the Christmas spirit!  If you can’t be here for the concert you may still make a donation.  Make checks payable to St. Andrew’s with “Outside Wind” on the memo line..

Fellowship Luncheon
December 18, 12 p.m. in the Parish Hall
Join us for lunch! Only $5 per person. RSVP to the church office by Monday, Nov. 18 so we can make enough lunch for everyone. 595-0371 or saec0371@gmail.com.

Turkey Sandwich Day
December 20, 9 a.m. in the Parish Hall
Come join us on Friday, December 20 at 9 a.m. for this St. Andrew's tradition as we make and deliver 550 bag lunches for the annual Christmas Party in downtown Newport News.  This is one of our most favorite outreach ministries of the year.  Click here for all the details.
