While the temperatures have been 100+ degrees, it will be winter before we know it. PORT, the winter homeless program begins November 1 and runs through March 30. St. Andrew's has been a part of this worthwhile program since its inception fourteen years ago. I have been the PORT coordinator for the last ten years. The time has come for me to step down from this vital ministry. Please pray and ask God if this ministry is for you. Responsibilities include: attending planning meetings with partner churches, seeking and organizing volunteers to prepare meals, serve meals, register guests and provide overnight supervision of guests.
For the new coordinator, I will work closely with you while you get your feet wet. Interested persons should contact me or the church office for more information.

Our diocese requires Creating Safe Churches for Children training for all persons who teach or volunteer with young people under the age of 18. The training is grounded in our call to seek and serve Christ in all persons and to respect the dignity of every human being. A certificate is issued to each individual upon completion of the course. Current policy requires re-certification every three years.
There are four half-hour segments which may be completed on line. Please go to: diosova.org; click on the "Formation" tab; scroll down to "Safe Church" and follow the instructions. If you have questions or need help with the process, please contact the Rev. Rhonda Wheeler at saec.rhonda11@verizon.net or 595-0371.

A note from St. Andrew's Episcopal School:
Wayne MacMasters, past Chairman of the Board of Trustees for St. Andrew's Episcopal School, and Rob Marston, Rector of St. Andrew's, have announced the resignation of Margaret Moore as Head of School effective June 30, 2011. This is in response to a letter received from Margaret in June in which she submitted her resignation. As stated in her letter, Margaret said, "Just as God calls one into ministry, we are also called out to something new."
During Margaret's tenure as Head of St. Andrew's School, a Pre-Kindergarten class, an Extended Day Program, and the Way Cool After School Program have been added, along with a Director of Development, the new St. Andrew's Episcopal School Foundation, an Academic Dean, and the latest in new classroom technology for a 21st century curriculum. The on-going remarkable success of SAES graduates in academics and leadership is a testament to her success as Head of School.
Mr. MacMasters and Dr. Marston said, "On behalf of the entire St. Andrew's community, we want to express to Margaret our collective heartfelt ‘thank you!' for her leadership of our great school these past eight years, as well as the upcoming year. We wish Margaret and her husband Bill the very best in the future."
The day school Board of Trustees is appointing a search committee, representative of the school community, that will be charged with the responsibility for selection of the next Head of School. Copies of the full announcement from the Board are available in the church office.
Fall Camp 2010 - Discovering Ourselves Anew from October 25-28 at Shrine Mont at Orkney Springs:
Sponsored by the Tri-Diocesan Council, this is a fun filled educational opportunity. The keynote speaker is Bishop Carol Gallagher; the chaplain is The Rt. Rev. Neff Powell; and the musician is Ed Kilbourne.
The cost for registration is $245 for a single room and $215 for a double. For more information, please see the flyer on the bulletin board.
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner! - Fellowship with a FUN twist:
Please take part in this fun opportunity to get to know one another and build the community of St. Andrew's. Here's how it works...
Parishioners are asked to volunteer to either be a host or a guest. Hosts offer their home for a dinner gathering for 6-8 guests and provide the main course. Guests bring an assigned dish: salad, vegetable, dessert.
The twist: the hosts only know that they are hosting a specified number of people but have no idea who the guests will be. The guests are assigned a specific dish to bring in advance but only find out the day before where they are going.
The guests do no know who else will attend.
Will you be a host or a guest?
Please contact Barbara Daniels to sign up as a host or a guest before October 3. If you would like to be a family host please let Barbara know. There is a need for "floaters" too. A sign-up sheet will also be available in the Parish Hall during St. Andy's Café. Please provide an email address and a telephone number.
Dish assignments will be emailed on October 6 and your final destination will be sent via email on Saturday, October 9. If you're a flexible soul, please indicated this to Barbara via email or on the sign-up sheet. There are always last minute changes to be made!
St. Andrew's Episcopal School - Parents' Association - Fall Fun Walk & Run 5K
Have you ever wanted to walk or run a 5K but have never done so? Are you a running enthusiast or weekend warrior looking for a new event? Do you love to be outside? Well, if you answered ‘yes' to any of the above questions then you should plan to participate in this great event to support the day school on September 25.
There are many opportunities for involvement: you can run or walk the 5K, you can supervise the Kids' Run, you can volunteer to help with the event, or you can be a race sponsor (or find some)! More information and registration forms are available on the bulletin board in the church lobby or by contacting Julie Duregger.

Fun, Food and Fellowship at St. Andrew's
Included in this newsletter are the dates for the 59'ers Luncheons. These luncheons are for those 59 and older who come to enjoy a delicious lunch once month from September through May, except during Lent.
Under the Hill is the fellowship group for those in their 20's, 30's and 40's. Throughout the year, they have various activities which often include a wine or beer tasting, chili cookout, picnic and/or other special events.
A few years ago, The Gap was started to bridge "the gap" between these two groups. At first it was for those 50-59; but now, the events are open to anyone, especially those not willing to admit their ages! It is time to find some volunteers to host a GAP function. Earlier this summer there was a great evening of fun, fellowship, and food hosted by Charlotte and Doug Vaughan. If you would be willing to host a gathering of The GAP, please call or email Bill Wilds at 595-0371 or saec.bill19@verizon.net. We would like to plan several gatherings this fall, and it would be nice to get the Christmas gathering on the calendar early.
Get an early start on your Christmas shopping at The 2nd Annual Olde Fashioned Christmas Craft Fair at the St. Andrew's Parish Hall.
Saturday, November 20, 2010
You can participate by looking in your cabinets, closets, and jewelry boxes for any items you may have gotten as gifts that have not been opened or used. Bring them in for the Golden Gift Corner by November 3. There will be collection box in the Main Street lobby.
Calling all cooks or "wish to be" cooks! We have an opportunity for you to make items for the fair on Sunday, September 19, and Sunday September 26, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.; on Wednesday, September 29, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.; and on Thursday, October 28, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Please call Joy Johnson to sign up. Space is limited so sign up soon!
