Fourteen individuals from the Diocese of Southern Virginia traveled by bus with the other dioceses of Province III to the 2011 Episcopal Youth Event on the campus of Bethel University in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota June 21 -27. Those from St. Andrew's who attended included: Conor Davidson, Eric Marcolini, and Harper Lewis.
The Episcopal Youth Event is a triennial gathering of youth and youth leaders from all over the Episcopal Church and takes place in the year before General Convention. Highlights of the week included an opening Eucharist with Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, an incredible keynote address and workshops led by Dr. Rodger Nishioka of Columbia Theological Seminary, and an inspiring worship service with Bishop Eugene Sutton of Maryland. Throughout the week, the participants had the opportunity to engage in short-term mission and outreach projects, make new friends from all over the Episcopal Church especially the dioceses of West Virginia and Virginia, attend a variety of thoughtful and fun workshops, and sing their hearts out with the incredible music team. The drive provided stops in Chicago as well as the Mall of America. This was an incredible opportunity for community building and leadership development for all our youth participants. |
